A Simple Motor

player is loading....
This is a demonstration of the world's simplest motor. And the pieces that I am going to use for it are this battery to provide electrical energy, magnet to provide magnetic energy, two paper clips to provide supports for the coil of wire, so here's the way it goes together. Supports I'll hold against either side of the battery and I'll put the coil right here. So, this means current passes from the battery through the coil loops around several times and then back out again. Now to make it into a motor, we have to have a magnetic force acting on it, and that's what the magnet is for. I'm going to slip this right in here and you can see it's already started moving.
