Round Magic Lantern
This version has a round body to contain its lamp,
and a high base. There are ringlets hanging from both sides
of the round portion, probably for decoration rather than a
functional purpose. Attaching the ringlets to pieces of rope
would not suspend the lantern properly, and even if it could be
suspended by rope, the metal body would quickly become hot enough
to burn any such attachments.
Note the glass slide protruding from behind the
lens tube. Often, pictures were hand-drawn on these slides,
although later, pictures were photographed and printed onto them.
