2005 ARML Competition

On June 3rd, 2005, two teams from North Carolina traveled to Penn State University in State College, Pennsylvania to compete in the American Regions Mathematics League (ARML) Meet. Ninety-five teams from across the nation and from the Taiwan were in attendance.

As usual, North Carolina sent two teams. One team competed in the A Division, along with the stronger teams, while the other team, which consisted primarily of underclass students, competed in Division B.  The A-Team placed 7th in Division A (out of 27 teams) while the B-Team finished 25th (out of 68 teams) in Division B. The 7th place finish by our A team was our best performance at ARML in ten years.  In 1995 the NC A Team finished 4th in the nation.

Most of the members of the A Team were students who had placed in the top twenty at the State Math Contest. The B Team members were all underclassmen and were selected for their outstanding performance on a variety of test - the State Math Contest, the America Mathematics Contests, or the American Invitational Mathematics Examination.  The B-Team is our training ground for future A-Team members.

If you would like to represent North Carolina at the 2006 ARML Meet, be sure you attend a Region Math Contest, qualify for the State Math Contest, and take the AMC and AIME math tests.  The 2006 ARML Meet will be held at Penn State in early June.
