Photo Journal: Day 2

On the second day we took more photos. After taking some pictures in the same way as day one, we tried to change the photos by trying new ways of shooting the coin. One of the first things we did was place other lead pellets on top of the coin we were shooting. In one circumstance we were even able to place 3 different pellets on top of one coin for a photo.

On one of the shots with a pellet on top, we got lucky enough to hit the standing pellet right on top of it. The pellet that was hit was almost completely destroyed in the photo. After doing these photos we toyed with the idea of freezing the coin in liquid nitrogen (which was being used by another group) and then shoot it. The effect we were trying to get through this was the shattering of the coin. We thought that if we got the coin cold enough, it would become brittle then the impact would be able to break it, or at least crack it. The problem we encountered was that by the time we were able to place the coin in the clamps and then shoot it, it would already have warmed up and lost the extremely low temperature. This kept us from being able to get a photo of the coin shattering which was disappointing. The last thing we did was shoot at a gold coin. We were interested to find out if the gold coin gave different effects than the others. Unfortunately, they didn't, but we did get a photo of a nice jet of fire coming off the coin.
