Photo Journal: Day 3
On our last day we tried to get one more type of photo to finish out our project. We thought over ways to modify the shot. We decided that since we had already tried to freeze the coin, which had failed, then we should try to heat it. We found a new clamp that would hold the coin more securely and we also found a propane tank with nozzle attached. We put the coin into the clamp, centered it under the gun barrel, and then proceeded to light the flame on the burner. We set the flame under the coin to start heating iit. We continued burning the coin until we thought it was sufficiently hot. Unfortunately, this was a lttle too hot. The clamp was made out of a type of metal which we found had a much lower melting point than we expected. At first we thought the coin was melting and bending, but after doing it twice, we discovered that it was the clamp itself that was melting (our great apologies to the owners of the clamp). Due to the fact that the clamp did not stay solid while we were trying to take the picture, our goal of photographing a very hot coin failed and we were not able to get any really good pictures.
We did our best to fix the clamp and since it was the last day of taking photos, we began cleaning up our area around our project.
