Bouncy Ball Collision

Download Clip (221 Kb)

This is a slow motion video of a small rubber bouncy ball colliding with a wall at very high velocity. It is interesting to see how much the rubber compresses and rebounds after the collision. Another observation worth noting is that the speed at which the ball leaves the wall is almost the same as the speed at which it approaches it. This can be explained by the elasticity of the bouncy ball--the very thing which causes the ball to bounce. The framerate used for this video was 2000 frames/sec, while the shutter speed was 10X, or 1/20000th of a second.
