Rubber Ball Collision

Download Clip (203 Kb)

This video shows the collision of a large, hollow, plastic ball with a wall. An interesting observation is that when the ball collides with the wall, many small ripples are formed around the base of the collision. This comes from the sudden impact of the ball and the elasticity of the material. A water balloon will act in the same way, but much more significantly. This video was recorded at a framerate of 2000 frames/sec, with a shutter speed of 10x, or 1/20000th of a second.
