These
milk splashes were photographed
in 4 colors. A Nikon FA camera with a 55 mm macro lens set at
f/22 was used. The film speed was ISO 400.
Milk
drops were released from a pipette one at a time. They fell
into a shallow pool of milk 25 cm below. The trigger for the
flash units was a photogate placed
1.0 cm below the pipette, where its beam would be broken by the
falling milk drops. After a drop broke the beam, a computer
counted down a predetermined delay and then discharged 4 flash units
at intervals of 3 ms. Filters placed on the flash units resulted in the following
sequence of colors: yellow, red, blue,
and green.
