When
a racquetball collides with a hard surface, its shape changes in
much the same way, but at a faster rate than collisions of water
drops and water
balloons and
other objects less elastic than racquetballs.
For the following photos, a contact trigger was mounted on a vertical wall, and the
racquetball was projected horizontally from a large slingshot toward
the trigger. Upon collision,
the trigger set off a flash unit, which recorded the
collision. In order to view later stages of the racquetball's
deformation, the flash was delayed from firing by using a delay
unit.
