This
is a slice of a potato, impacting a wall at 150 mph. A photogate was
used to detect the passing of the potato and discharge a flash unit to take this photo. Note the
spraying of material in all directions away from the impact
site. Larger bits of potato are traveling slowly enough to
appear sharp on film, but the smaller potato fragments are
blurred due to their fast speed.
