Abstract

The goal of our project was to create reproducible, technically accurate binary drop collisions. To do this, we used an oscillating pump to expel drops at a consistent rate. These drops were then aligned such that they collided. The results of our project was a method to create technically accurate drop collisions. Using a high speed camera, and stroboscope, we were able to analyze the different factors that affected drop collisions. We found that three problems affected the technical accuracy of our drop collisions: Vibration, Oscillation, and Fragmentation. After identifying the problems, we were able to construct an apparatus that created consistently accurate drop collisions.
