Morning sightseeing of Barcelona with a local guide, including entrances to the Gothic Cathedral and Parc Guell. Afternoon and evening activities organized by group leader(s). Dinner.

a visit to Parc Guell followed by Sagrada Familia and Montjuic occupied the morning...

most returned to central Barcelona and then to Barceloneta for lunch
and then shopping....

the minority visited the Miro Musuem and retuned by the funicular to the hotel,
followed by a walk to Miro Park

after dinner, a trek to a "nightclub" ensued....
oh well, at least we got to see the Columbus statue
(did anyone else notice?)

Morning drive to Carcassonne for a visit.
Continue on to Avignon for dinner. Evening activities organized by group leader(s).

most of the day was occupied by the bus trip from Barcelona to Avignon,
interrupted by lunch at the stunning, but somewhat touristy,
walled city of Carcassonne

the Avignon hotel was nicely situated (Place de Horologe)

Morning excursion to the Pont du Gard and Nimes,
including entrances to the Monuments.
Return to Avignon.
Afternoon and evening activities organized by group leader(s). Dinner.

instead, we visited Arles (and its Roman Arena) in the morning
and then drove through the Camargue (horses, black bulls, and pink flamingos)
to Ste.Maries-de-la-Mer
(where, supposedly, the three Marys -- Mary, the mother of James and John;
Mary Jacoby, the sister of Mary; and Mary Magdelene -- arrive after the crucifixion of Jesus; Dan Brown's The DaVinci Code further asserts that they were accompanied by Sarah, the daughter of Jesus and Mary Magdalene),
where we were freed for lunch

After visiting Pont du Gard in the afternoon, we returned to Avignon for dinner;
don't ask what Michael and Alex did, but there are pictures...

after a Provecal dinner (unappreciated by some nitwits),
most did pool (not the water kind)

Morning drive from Avignon to board the TGV train to Paris.
Afternoon and evening activities organized by group leader(s). Dinner.

in reality, we left Avignon on an earlier TGV train,
due to the cancellation of our afternoon

TGV train to Paris by the strikes;
unfortunately, that cut out the expected
shopping and touring the Papal Palace in the morning

after arriving at Gare de Lyon, we drove to Giverny
(Monet's last home and gardens; but why 3 hours??
because, I think, Fiona needed a break to plan),

and also the home of the Museum of American Art

the strikes necessitated a hotel change to (still another) Hotel Mercure,
across from the Gare du Nord (train station)

After dinner (is food allowed to be this bad in Paris?),
we were bussed to Montmartre

(past the police, strikers, demonstrators, and the sex show strip),
where we lost (temporarily) one of the adults,
and
where Sacre Coeur was still having Mass
(who goes to mass at 10 pm? lots of people apparently)...
it was quite cold, and none of the shops/bistros could sell
le cafe to go

Morning sightseeing of Paris with a local guide. Afternoon excursion to Versailles. Dinner. Evening activities organized by group leader(s).
Entrance to the Louvre is included during your stay in Paris.

the morning was occupied by a two-hour talky bus tour
followed by a visit to Notre Dame

most of the group was bussed out to Versailles
but DF and JK saw St. Sulpice, Magritte at the Maillol,
and Bonnard at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris

dinner was psuedo-crepes followed by 2 hours at the Louvre

Full day activities organized by group leader(s).
Optional dinner at the Bouteille d'Or followed by an illumination drive.

we set out in the morning for the Musée d'Orsay
but an unexpected strike kept it from opening

we all eventually ended in central Paris with shopping, Sainte-Chapelle,
shopping,
Centre Pompidou, lunch, and shopping occupying most of the day

after dinner, the options were a (free) boat tour of Paris via the Seine or
the (non-free) Eiffel Tower

I have no idea what an illumination drive is...

because the Hotel Mercure (Gare du Nord) was full, we had to change hotels again,
to one near the Bastille.... and the least interesing breakfast of the week
